Kirkbymoorside Town Brass Band Open Rehearsal / Concert 7 March 2010 Regular readers of the Gazette will recall we told you of Kirkbymoorside Town Brass Band’s Carol Concert on Sunday 23 December 2009. As you will recall the concert and potential audience were hindered somewhat by the freezing weather and heavy snowfall.
Despite the weather the generosity of the audience was amazing. The reduced numbers managed to raise a brilliant £288.48 for ‘Help for Heroes’ latest appeal Army Recovery Centres: Army Recovery Centres.
In order to try and increase this donation further the Band are holding an open rehearsal / concert on 7th March 2010 In Kirkbymoorside Memorial Hall from 7-9pm. As many of you know the Band is competing in the Northern Area Brass Band Finals on Sunday 21 March 2010 at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington. In order to prepare for this they hope to produce a practice run of the piece they will be playing – George Lloyd's 'English Heritage', incorporated within a short concert programme. Entry will be free but the Band will be taking donations for ‘Help for Heroes’ Army Recovery Centres.
Army Recovery Centres provide a “launchpad” to life for seriously wounded or long term sick soldiers, supporting them as they make the transition to a fulfilling future.
Soldiers who are wounded in the service of their country currently receive excellent medical care, however it is once the soldier has stopped being an ‘inpatient’ that problems can arise.
Army Recovery Centres (ARCs) will help soldiers to make the swiftest possible return to duty, or smoothest transition to an appropriately skilled and supported civilian life. They will be made available for seriously wounded, injured, or long-term sick soldiers, irrespective of cause of injury, within a conducive military setting..
In addition to offering medical support, ARCs will provide wounded soldiers with an individually tailored programme, including career management and counselling (which takes into account their particular injury and skill set) as well as assistance with resettlement.
The creation of further ARCs, delivered as quickly as possible, is now an absolute priority for H4H and the Army. Fully comprehensive centres accommodating 20 residents with larger staff in Colchester, Catterick, Tidworth, Aldershot and a more permanent solution in Edinburgh.
If the Band do well at Darlington they will go on to represent the Northern Area and Kirkbymoorside in the National Brass Band Finals at the Royal Albert Hall in London. So please go along on the 7th of March to help them prepare and raise much needed funds for ‘Help for Heroes’ Army Recovery Centres.
