The choir first met on the 12th January 1951. It was the idea of the Lastingham W.I. and the first choir members were ladies of the W.I., their husband, and friends from Lastingham and the surrounding villages. It was known simply as “The Lastingham Choir”. Originally it was run as part of the Evening Institute classes organised by the local Education Authority. The choir met each Friday evening in Lastingham Village Hall then moved their rehearsals to Appleton-le-Moors Village Hall for well over 30 years and it was during the mid-nineteen eighties that the choir became known as the “Ryedale Choral Union”.

Newcomers are very welcome.
