Save Ryedale from
Parking Charges

Feb 2005 -  Ryedale Council are proposing to raise the  parking charges by 25%!!!!!

It could be argued that visitors to Ryedale visit for one of two reasons, tourism or shopping. If the charges put off either of these groups, the council will have no one to charge. The council must start acting like a normal business, who have to be careful not to charge too much or they loose business. Other authorities do not charge shoppers to shop and their towns and shopping centres are thriving just like Monks Cross and Clifton Moor whose shoppers pay nothing to park. We must try to make the council listen to common sense and put Parking Charge down not up.

Bye the way the only place you can easily park in Ryedale for nothing, is Ryedale House, well I'll bet your not surprised about that.

The vote is over and the result was

Get rid of charging - 1376      Keep Charging - 302

Well almost one in five respondents would like to see free parking in Malton. It would be to much to hope that Ryedale Council will take any notice but probably we might get a fairer method  of charging some day.
