SUPPORT FOR SOUTH AFRICAN AIDS ORPHANS PROJECT
LOCAL YMCA
PAST PROJECTS
This project
is now an establish part of our programme. The YMCA provides supported housing units for young people who
become homeless for a variety of reasons. Often these young people have only the
clothes they are wearing having left all their possessions behind. The housing
units are modern but contain only basic furniture.
We are providing boxes containing some basic requirements, crockery and cutlery, pans, towels, toiletries etc which the young people can them take with them when they transfer to more permanent accommodation.
So far we have provided a number of boxes, the contents are complied from donations by members. We feel this is a very worthwhile project, supporting young people in our community. Back to top
Our project creating a border at Helmsley Walled Garden continues to thrive. We have now had two successful summers where our border has flourished. As Spring is upon us it is now time to tidy up and prepare for the forthcoming year with some new planting.
This garden is run by a charitable trust to provide therapy through gardening for mentally disabled people. It is open to the public from 1st April to 31 October.

Support for South African AIDS Orphans Project
We continue to support this project which is close to the hearts of our members. The children we support unfortunately changes as AIDS takes its toll, but the hard work of all the people in South Africa continues to have our admiration.
Our support began after the SIGBI conference in Durban 2001. SI Malton members made contact with Carrinder Slabber a member of SI Pretoria Tshwane club. The Malton delegates were very moved by the speakers on Aids and related subjects and through this contact learnt of SI Pretoria’s works with Aids Orphanages. Back to top
