Yorkshire Bat Group attempts to set the record straight, inform
and educate the public about these fascinating creatures. We also run
projects to conserve and protect bats, rescue and rehabilitate injured
bats and help with any problems bats on their roosts may cause. The

Bats and the Law In the last 100 years there has been a rapid fall in the bat number in Britain, so that today there are less than 2% of the bats there were in 1900. For this reason all 16 species of bats in Britain are protected by law. This makes it illegal to kill or harm bats and to disturb or destroy their roost sites, even if the bats are not present at the time. Bats will roost in many places, house roofs, caves, trees, bridges, house porches at the side of window frames, barns, and even dry stone walls.
