From the original sixteen members (some of whom are still with the Singers) Chanticleer has developed into a chamber choir of around thirty voices, attracting able singers from a wide area. Though most members live in the Malton and Pickering area, others come from York, Scarborough, Pocklington and Whitby - a catchment area spanning some fifty miles.

Most are amateur musicians, though some are professional. They have in common a love of singing, and a taste for a wide range of music: from medieval music, madrigals and Bach to twentieth century classical, sacred and popular music. Whatever is sung, however, there is an emphasis on quality of performance.

Most of our five or six concerts per year are held on our home territory, but from time to time we go much further afield, in the UK and abroad.

The Singers have performed on radio and television and made four professional recordings. The latest is a  CD, entitled 'Heart and Soul', and features the lighter side of the choir's repertoire. Another recording is planned for the Autumn of 2008.

In addition to our own concerts, the choir is sometimes able to accept invititations to sing for other organisations and for weddings.

A vacancy occasionally arises, and the Musical Director will be glad to audition prospective new members with good singing experience and sight-reading ability.
