Lastingham is on the southern fringe of the North York Moors, five miles north east of Kirkbymoorside, one and a half miles to the east of Hutton le Hole and half a mile to the north of Spaunton. As pretty villages go, it doesn't get better than this. The justifiably highly rated, 'Lastingham Grange Hotel' can be found on the north side of the village. (see  below)

The Norman crypt in Lastingham church is intact and is unique in Britain in having both side aisles and a nave. It was intended to be an abbey but was never finished. It was started in 1068, and has remained the same since. The supporting columns bear capitals carved with depictions of ram's heads.

St CEDD'S WELL
This grand well house is located by the main road through the village. Originally the water flowed down a pipe, from a spring behind the well and then flowed out of the mouth of the lions head mounted on the front panel of the well house. Two other wells can be located in the village.
